how can I stop getting upgrade messages (Word for Windows)

I bought Microsoft Word on a CD way back in 2010. I've been very happy with it and it still works great. But now it is somehow connected to the internet and when I open it, I keep getting messages to upgrade it. Sometimes these prompts force me to reinstall it. I get that there are advantages to having Word be connected to the 'net so it can be updated, but I'd like to use Word 2010 exactly the way I bought it, without having to worry about any subscription fees. Can anyone tell me how to get it to run it like it used to, without all the nagging to upgrade and reinstall it?

    I've been using Office 2010 since it was issued and have never been forced to upgrade by an ad from Microsoft. Though you state your purchased the software, it seems more likely that you obtained it, at least for awhile, through an Office 365 subscription, and the messages you see are nags to upgrade that subscription.

    When reinstalling the software, you should enter the original product key, not an email address. That ensures that Microsoft can't connect your Office installation to any former subscription.
