Regarding MS 365

I absolutely HATE Microsoft 365! Is there a way to get rid of it and use just plain old Word again? And if so, how do I protect my docs while making the switch?

Charles, I thank you for your response...but why would I buy something that's like MS 365 when I HATE 365? I really just want to go back to Word in Windows 10.

The version of Word you use has (almost) no relationship to the version of Windows that you use -- they are completely different software packages. Most versions of Word (except really old ones) will run on most versions of Windows. So "Word in Windows 10" isn't a specific thing.

John's post that you marked as the Answer points to the procedure for removing Microsoft 365 from your computer. After that's done, if you still have the disk and the product key for the older version of Office that you used to use, you can install that. If you don't have those things, you may want to look at LibreOffice, an open-source free suite that can read and write documents in Office formats.

Here is Microsoft's page on uninstalling Office. As long as your Microsoft 365 subscription remains valid, you can reinstall anytime from your Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page.

Your operating system creates file associations of file ending names with installed programs. Since you installed LibreOffice most recently, the association for .docx is now with LibreOffice. You can reset the file associations back to Microsoft 365 by doing an Office repair.

That means that the file associations were not set correctly during Office installation, not that your documents are damaged. In Word, choose File>Open and navigate to one of your Word files to test.

Please try an Office Repair to fix the file associations.

Yes. Buy Word 2021 or Microsoft Office 2021.

You will find them very similar (almost identical) to Word in Microsoft 365.

These are "perpetual license" products which do not require internet connection after installation.
