Office 2021 : transfer the licence to another account or change the licence on my PC

Hi the community,

I have 3 Microsoft accounts :

  • account 1 : used to buy Office licences
  • account 2 : used by user1 (me)
  • account 3 : used by user2

But I made a mistake...

I have accidentally associated a licence to account 1 + account 2 instead of account 2 + account 3.

My 2 questions are:

  • is it possible to move my licence from account 1 to account 3 ?
  • if no, if I disconnect my account 2 on my PC, is it possible to reconnect using account 1 and therefore to free the licence of account 2 for another user ?

Thank you very much.

    Hello A BHX,

Thank you for sharing your concern here in Microsoft Community Forum and we hope that all is well.

We understand that one of the Office licenses was associated to an account not intended to and want to transfer it to the intended account user. Let us see how we can help.

As per Microsoft Services Agreement, under Using the Services & Support, once a license is associated to a Microsoft account, it cannot be transferred to another account. You can check it also from an application like Word > File > Account > About Word > click on View the Microsoft Software License terms. If you want the Office license to be used by a specific user or device, the Microsoft account where the license was tied up with will be used to activate the license. Transferring the Office license to another device is possible however, the correct account where the Office license is tied up to will be use for the activation of the Office license. This would mean that you can uninstall the Office license from a device and reinstall and activate it to another device with the Microsoft account where the license was associated to.

For your reference on how to activate Office after reinstalling or installing on a different device, see: Activate Office after reinstalling or installing on a different device - Microsoft Support

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

    Sincerely,

I have almost the same issue. My browser was logged into my old microsoft account (from college) and I didn't realize when I activated my product key. When I went to install it, on the computer that has the rest of my current information tied to my current account that I purchase my OS on and everything else. I need to transfer the Microsoft Office from one email to the next or I cannot use it on my current computer.

    Help please!

Hi, Please note that only Microsoft Support can change the Microsoft Account (email address) associated with Office. They will only do so for a GOOD. A good reason would be, for example, you no longer have the email account used to redeem Office. It is up to you to show good reason. I am having difficulty understanding your question. Re: "account 1 : used to buy Office licences". That is the Microsoft Account associated with your Office. You appear to be saying that you have changed it, but that is not possible?

    I have the same issue.

I purchased Microsoft Office 2021, then accidentally registered using the wrong email address. I need to switch the email associated with my Office 2021 license (not just transfer to another device). This was user error on my part, but renders my $150 purchase ineffective for my purposes if I cannot register under the proper email address.

How do I re-register my Office 2021 package using a different email address? I have reached out to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/, which ultimately led me to call support at 877-696-7786, which pointed me back to the link above.

So I am stuck. Does anyone have guidance on how to resolve this? I am happy to follow whatever uninstallation / reinstallation process I need to, speak with someone, engage on a chat online or go to a store.

    Thank you!
