No one here has any influence on Microsoft development, but you can submit a suggestion for Microsoft via File | Feedback or Help | Feedback. Suggesting that they use the same technology as Teams would be good.
why is office voice dictation so terrible, when teams is absolutely amazing?
So I use voice dictation a lot. It allows me to get my ideas out in the natural flow of my mind, and not be bothered with the physical typing. I use this daily with my iPhone.
I have tried Microsoft dictation multiple times, looked at different articles, tried thick version of word vs online word. on my iPad it works great but on my PC it is so terrible it renders it unusable. Unless.... I .... speak.... like... captain james t kirk....
HOWEVER.... I turned on the transcription feature when using teams and it is amazing, and handles 3 or 4 different people speaking at the same time. Sure there are some challenges with accents but by in large it is phenomenal..
So why the difference? Can Microsoft please leverage the voice recognition technology in Teams into Office 365? Or does anyone have any ideas how to improve dictation in Office?

2023-08-23T13:18:20+00:00 Thanks I honestly didn’t know how to do that.
With that being said… do you have any suggestions to improve things as they are?

2024-01-26T02:50:57+00:00 Windows Speech Recognition is all around terrible in MS office apps. The teams transcription is far superior, but google voice typing is superior still. MS really needs to do something about this because it will allow better usage of copilot and other key features. It also seems that the Windows Voice typing is better. Do they run off separate engines? That would be very very strange.
