    Hi Donna,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for the inconveniences,

Here are a few possible solutions that you can try:

Cited from the article https://www.thewindowsclub.com/unable-to-login-to-microsoft-defender-in-windows "- Terminate and restart Microsoft Defender. You can do this by opening the Task Manager, finding Microsoft Defender in the Processes tab, right-clicking on it, and selecting End Task. Then, open the Start menu, type Microsoft Defender, and click on it to launch it again.

    • Repair and reset Microsoft Defender. You can do this by opening the Settings app, going to Apps, finding Microsoft Defender in the Apps & features list, clicking on it, and selecting Advanced options. Then, click on Repair and wait for the process to complete. If that doesn't work, you can also try clicking on Reset to restore Microsoft Defender to its default settings."

I don’t even know how to terminate or end task and restart. Defender just seems to run in the background automatically. I never “start” it. It’s just that I’ve gotten this email with alerts, tried to look at them but seem locked out of defender/ms..

    This is what I get:
