Multiple OneDrive errors

Hi I have a user that has few problems with OneDrive and I am unsure how to resolve them:

  1. Is OneDrive able to sync .psd files this user had issues of not being able to upload files as the filename wasn't accepted

and and so was the filetype according to the error message in OneDrive [white cross red circle]

  1. I faced the same issue with .jpg files "the file name or type is not supported" despite changing the name of the .jpg file from ._filename to filename, the error still wasn't resolved [white cross red circle]
  2. The user added a OneDrive shortcut to their desktop which they would like to remove, however, when I right clicked on the shortcut there was no option to remove shortcut only "Delete". If I click on "Delete" will this delete the files in their OneDrive
  3. The users local disk C is running out of space and some files were not able to be synced due to there not being sufficient storage. Are there any available resources that I am able to use to resolve this issue?
  4. If a user backs up their local PC files [Documents, Pictures, Desktop] and they stop backup will they lose any data?

Sorry for the long message and thank you for the help in advance

    Hi Tina,

Thank you so much for the prompt response. Apologies on my end for the late response.

    1. Regarding the first & second request, of the image of the psd and jpg file, kindly find the screenshot of the psd file [i have removed the file name due to privacy concerns]. The image is a little blurry but the filename starts with ._filename

    1. Thank you for the clarification regarding the shortcut
    2. Regarding files on demand, I would just like to confirm that the user would be able to choose which files they would like to store locally on their device, is that right? Additionally, are there any other solutions to help the user with their local disk C storage issues besides File on Demand
    3. Thank you for the clarification regarding the folder backup
    4. I would just like to confirm, the user added shortcuts of their desktop to their OneDrive online, if these shortcuts were removed from OneDrive online, would the Desktop file/contents of the Desktop files on their computer be lost. If I were to remove this shortcut, would it be better for me to un-sync OneDrive and then remove the shortcut from the users OneDrive online
    5. Additionally, the user added a Sharepoint shortcut to their Desktop, similar to OneDrive shortcut removal will the removal/deletion of this shortcut on desktop also remove/delete the users Sharepoint site/folder online?
    6. The user tried to rename a OneDrive folder and received error 0x8007018B. As per the following post How to solve error code 0x8007018b I saw, I reset the users OneDrive despite the sync errors that were present [file name/type as mentioned in the original post]. I would just like to confirm if resetting the users OneDrive would delete any files/folders from either the users OneDrive desktop/online. Going forward, would it be better to only reset OneDrive if all sync errors has been resolved or would it be alright to reset OneDrive if some sync errors are present. Attached below is the error message that popped up when the user tried to rename a folder

Below is the screenshot of the errors that the user had when I reset their OneDrive

    1. Lastly, I would like to know if it is possible for the user to change the name of the folder that was synced from OneDrive to file explorer. The folder that is OneDrive - TenantName. If it is possible, what are the steps to do so and could the user experience any issues going forward, if so, what are those issues. Is it recommended for users to change that OneDrive folder name based on the potential issues that this user might face?

So sorry for the long response and thank you for reading and responding in advance. I really appreciate it.

    Dear Shasha,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Per your description, it seems that the question 1 and question 2 are both OneDrive sync issue.

As far as I know, OneDrive supports syncing .psd files. could you please share screenshots of the complete file name of the psd file and jpg file?

For the question 3, click on "Delete" won't delete the files in their OneDrive.

For the question 4, OneDrive has File On-demand feature which helps to access files in your cloud storage in OneDrive without having to download them and use storage space on your computer.

May I know if Files On-Demand is enabled in your OneDrive?

You may open OneDrive settings (select the OneDrive cloud icon in your notification area, and then select the OneDrive Help and Settings icon, then Settings.) > Go to the Sync and back up tab, expand the **Advanced settings,**and check if Files On-Demand is enabled.

Here is a support article for reference: Save disk space with OneDrive Files On-Demand for Windows - Microsoft Support

For the question 5, they won't lose data when they stop backup local PC files [Documents, Pictures, Desktop]. When you stop backup, you can choose to save files in OneDrive Only or save on computer only. Here is a support article for reference: Back up your folders with OneDrive - Microsoft Support

    Look forward to your reply.

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Thanks for your time and understanding! We hope you have a nice day. Stay safe and healthy always.

    Sincerely,
