    I'm having the same problem. Jacob's solution sounds like it should work, but on the browser I don't even have the file-info-edit pathway.

    The screenshot below shows my entire file option.

    Why can't I open a shared notebook in the app?

    the sharing problems I had were solved as following:

    1. copy link from onenote desktop app / web browser
    2. email it to the person you want to share with
    3. that person opens it in their browser
    4. in their browser, that person then clicks file - info - edit in desktop app
    5. the person needs to then sign in to the same account in their desktop app

    all the best

    There is no longer a "Open in OneNote App" option when a shared notebook invite link is clicked and the Notebook opens in a web browser. The original shared notenbook is from a business account. My account is also a business account of a different domain.

    We can only find a way to open the notebook in a web browser, not the app. I am not convinced there is any longer a way to do this. We really want to use the app version for editing but we can't figure it out.

    Any help is appreciated-

    Thanks

    Benjamin

    Hi Shanmukh,

    Thanks for contacting us and sorry for the inconveniences,

    Here are some possible solutions you can try:

    • Make sure that you have the latest version of OneNote installed on your PC. You can check for updates by going to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now in OneNote.
    • Make sure that you are signed in to OneNote with the same account that has access to the shared notebook. You can check your account by going to File > Account in OneNote.
    • Make sure that the shared notebook is stored on OneDrive or SharePoint, and not on a local or network drive. OneNote can only open shared notebooks from online locations. You can check the location of the notebook by right-clicking on the notebook name in OneNote and selecting Properties.
    • Try copying and pasting the shared link into the address bar of your web browser. This should open the notebook in OneNote for the web. Then, click on the Open in OneNote button at the top of the page. This should launch the OneNote desktop app and open the notebook there.

    Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

    Regards, Sola

    I am having the same problem and it started cropping up this summer, maybe the same time it did for you.

    When I select "Copy Link To Page" it used to copy the link to the page in my onenote desktop app AND on onenote online. This was hugely useful for quickly accessing OneNote records in the app when I was working from my desktop in my CRM (I keep call notes in OneNote).

    >>> Old format:

    Record Name (linked to Desktop View)  (Web view)

    The desktop view link was: "onenote:https://..."

    The Web View link is: "https://onedrive.live.com/..."

    >>> Current format:

    Record Name (NOT linked to Desktop View)  (Web view)
    So the desktop link has disappeared entirely.

    Please help. I'm happy to provide more detail. ****
