Powerpoint: Turn off Autofit in Text Boxes

Hi - As many folks seem to have already said, this feature is a horrible default. Anyone working on a powerpoint generally tries to ensure all text on a slide is the same size for visual appeal. This feature makes that basic step impossible.

Now, on to resolving it. From what I understand, I'm not able to resolve the issue in powerpoint web? OK, I've opened the file locally. Last time I resolved this several days ago, when I selected a textbox, a little button appeared beside it that let me adjust the autofit settings for the textbox. That button is no longer appearing.

I've read elsewhere that I can adjust the global defaults for the file by going to File>Options>Proofing>AutoCorrect Options and unchecking the two checkboxes related to AutoFit for Title and Text. However, when I return to editing my file, the autofit effect is still present.

I'm completely unable to work with this feature enabled. Any help the community can provide is appreciated.

File>Options>Proofing>AutoCorrect Options are a per-installation settings that would not apply when you opening your file on a different computer.

Instead, please try the following steps:

    1. Create a text box.
    2. Right-click on the text box border and choose Format Shape. The Format Shape task pane opens.
    3. Choose Text Options and click on the Textbox icon.
    4. Select either the Do not Autofit or the Resize shape to fit text options.
    5. Right-click again on the border of the text box, but this time choose Set as Default Text Box.
    6. Save the file and upload to OneDrive or SharePoint for use with PowerPoint for the web.
