Sharing OneDrive files between business account and personal account

[Background]

I am working in a startup company.

Half of the workers already had a personal microsoft 356 account with subscriptions.

So, we are created a business account just for the other half of the workers.

[Main goal]

We want to edit files simultaneously using either personal/business account on our desktop program rather than the web app.

[Issue1]

First, someone with the personal account shared the link with the option "Anyone can the link can edit".

Everyone was able to edit as guests on the web app (We are using PC with windows 10 Pro system).

But when we tired to edit using desktop app, others with the personal account were able to edit, but not the ones with business account.

(The main problem was people with business account weren't able to login so they were only allowed to edit on the web as guests.)

[Issue2]

Had some search through google and found this on Microsoft support page, and the issue1 was solved.

"Sharing OneDrive files, SharePoint files, or Lists with other people allows you to securely collaborate with people outside your organization.

  • If you sign in with a work or school account, you can send a link to specific people, either inside or outside of your organization.
  • If you sign in with a Microsoft personal account, you can only choose people who also have Microsoft personal account"

So, this time the person with the business account tried sharing the file as described before.

Ofcourse everyone was able to edit as guests on the web app.

But only people with business account was able to edit using destop app this time.

The information paragraph above says that "If you sign in with a work or school account, you can send a link to specific people, either inside or outside of your organization."

However, it didn't seem to be working for us.

So the assumption is that either "outside of your organiztion" still means someone with a business account from a different work place.

If that is not the case, then, we would like to know how to share files from a business account to a personal account and we can still edit simultaneously through the desktop program.

We think one of the best features on Microsoft 365 is this function to edit simultaneously not just on web but also on the actual desktop programs as well,

so would very much appreciate your help with this problem.

(As editing on web app seems to have occational technical problems and does't provide the full features provided in the desktop program.)

Kind Regards

    Hi JJ_352

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're having issues with sharing OneDrive file from business to personal. Just a heads up that in regards to this kind of issue, our option is limited.

We could have confirmed the work sharing limitation by having you test whether you can "Add Shortcut" to a personal OneDrive folder shared with you. If so, it's probably a limitation on the business/work side and they should need to work with their IT admin to see if it's possible to relax the restriction, or if they're stuck working on the web.

Hope I helped! Please let me know if you have any other questions or clarifications.

    Regards,
