Replaced fonts but they are still shown as used when I save the file

I am updating an old slide deck, and have updated the fonts in them as well.

I have used the home > editing > replace > replace fonts action to replace an old font style (Avenir).

After I replace the font, I can go back in through the same pathway and it still shows Avenir as being replaceable. I have tried that with other fonts as well, and none of them disappear (they are all still options to be replaced)

Then I try to save the file and it tells me: "Some of your fonts cannot be saved with the presentation."

Why hasn't it replaced that font? Why does it say it's still in use?

Most likely, the fonts have been used for bullets. The font replace utility only replaces text fonts. Here's how to fix this issue:

    1. Choose File>Save As and change the Save as type dropdown to PowerPoint XML Presentation (*.xml). Click on Save.
    2. Right-click on the XML file and choose Open with>Notepad.
    3. In NotePad, choose Edit>Replace.
    4. In the Find what field, type, or copy and paste, typeface="Aptos".
    5. In the Replace with field, enter typeface="Arial" (You can use a different font, but Arial is a good bet).
    6. Click on Replace All.
    7. Do a find and replace on the other fonts you want to replace.
    8. Save the file.
    9. Open it in PowerPoint and save in normal PowerPoint format.
