OneDrive and renaming files

Given the loss of two important financial files and two weeks worth of data, I am ditching OneDrive and all the synchronisation that goes on with that and reverting to old style and saving all files to my PC hard drive. MST do not seem to recognise there is a problem as per the MST community. I lose all the benefits of OneDrive but what is happening is making me go mad.

I open a file from Onedrive and tells me I need to save a copy to enable rename to complete. I did not rename. I get another message that the file could not sync save. I save files to new name the system tells me that there have been later changes made by made by someone else, but I only have one PC and I control it. Another thing is when you look up the file in a spreadsheet it only says EXCEL not the name of the file. Looking up when you go file open the file name can 3 or 4 you have no idea which file you are dealing with. This I think comes from d.docs.live.net.docx.

Can someone tell me why I am paying for something which does not work. This has been going on for nearly two months. MST should get serious and look at some feedback as many are experiencing a similar issue.

I have had the same issue for about a month now. How do I fix it if I would like to continue using OneDrive which has worked well for me until recently?

    Hi William,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your question. I'm happy to help you with your issue.

It looks like you'd like to understand and resolve the issues you’re experiencing with OneDrive, particularly the synchronization problems, file renaming errors, and the confusing behavior when working with files saved in OneDrive. Here’s what you can do:

    1. Revert to Local Storage:
      • Since you’re planning to move away from OneDrive, start by backing up your files from OneDrive to your PC’s hard drive.
      • Ensure that you have all your important files saved locally by moving them from the OneDrive folder to a dedicated folder on your PC that is not synced with OneDrive.
    2. Disable OneDrive Sync:
      • To prevent OneDrive from syncing and causing further issues, you can disable it.
      • Right-click the OneDrive icon in the system tray, go to Settings > Account, and click Unlink this PC. This will stop OneDrive from syncing with your PC.
    3. Rename Files Locally:
      • Once your files are saved locally, you should be able to rename and manage them without issues.
      • Right-click the file, select Rename, and give it a new name. Make sure no other applications are accessing the file when you do this.

I hope these steps help you resolve your issues with OneDrive and manage your files more effectively. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please let me know. I'm always here to help.

    Best regards,

    Tommy
