    Dear Jeff Barnett,

    Thanks for sharing further information.

Can you change to another device to add the alias and try to try the login on the iPad?

Do you have Google Family Link installed on your iPad? I'll try to find out in the community if there are any issues similar to yours that you can refer to: Google ファミリーリンクが導入されているAndroid端末で、Microsoft Defenderがインストールできない。 - Microsoft コミュニティ(Japanese)

Looking forward to your further updates and hopefully gather more information about this issue.

Thank you for your understanding and help.

    Best regards

    Dear Jeff Barnett,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue.

I've also consulted with some of my other peeps, and recently some users in the community have mentioned that they can't recognise their subscriptions on their iPads, and this is still in the process of gathering information on this issue, which could also be the cause of the problem.

You can try the following first to add an alias to troubleshoot if it will install correctly (an alias is an address associated with your main account, they use the same password and common interests for your subscription): Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support

We look forward to your further updates, and we hope to gather more information about this issue with you to troubleshoot if it's a new problem.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards

Thank-you for the reply in answer to your questions:

    1. "Did you purchase your home subscription for Microsoft 365 from the official Microsoft website?" yes I did
    2. "Are you able to view the correct product status in the subscription screen of your Microsoft account? You can confirm this by clicking the link below and logging into your account: Microsoft account | Subscriptions" Yes I can
    3. My current ipad is my own
    4. Did you install it on your iPad as described in this article? If there are some differences, we suggest you try the installation again to troubleshoot: Installing Microsoft Defender - Microsoft Support : yes I did

My account is owned by me and not an institution, I have MS Defender running on an iphone under my account with no issue, but for the ipad I the error invalid licence

    Dear Jeff Barnett,

Thank you for sharing your question with the Microsoft community.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with not being able to set up Defender on your iPad, but you have a subscription and I understand your confusion and will do my best to help you troubleshoot.

In order to get a better idea of the status of the issue, I'd like to confirm some information with you first:

    • Did you purchase your home subscription for Microsoft 365 from the official Microsoft website?
    • Are you able to view the correct product status in the subscription screen of your Microsoft account? You can confirm this by clicking the link below and logging into your account: Microsoft account | Subscriptions

    • Is your current device your own iPad or do you belong to an organisation?
    • Did you install it on your iPad as described in this article? If there are some differences, we suggest you try the installation again to troubleshoot: Installing Microsoft Defender - Microsoft Support

Sincerely hope you can understand, as preliminary information may not give us a clear picture of the direction of the problem. You are welcome to contact us at any time if there is any progress.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    Best Regards
