OneDrive sync issue

I have a professional account for Onedrive.

We exchanged servers a few months and after migrating all the data from the server to Onedrive I used Teracopy to replace older files on Onedrive. However, for some reason and some files the replacement wasn't as successful as hoped. I ended up with more than 600 sync issues for some files than weren't correctly replaced ann now I have two files with different dates and the same name. Is there any way I could resolve this issue in one go or do I have to go file by file deleting the older version of it?

    Hi Rui,

Thanks for posting back and sorry for my late reply.

As far as I know, there is no out-of-the-box solution to the duplicate file problem with one click. Duplicate files still need to be removed manually.

Based on your description, since these issues and errors are reported after data migration, it would be better to check your tenant environment and migration process remotely. In this case, I suggest raising a support ticket from the Microsoft 365 admin center, where the related team will investigate the problem further by collecting the necessary background logs. You can contact your tenant administrator or IT team to create a support ticket with Microsoft Support directly by following the steps from this link:  Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Sorry for the inconvenience that happened to you. Appreciate your understanding and patience.

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator

Additionally, I would like to point out new information that may be useful in resolving this problem. The server is shared by the entire company, I was responsible for migrating the data from the internal server to Onedrive. There was already some information on One drive, the migration was attempted because that information was not completely updated.

This synchronization error that I mentioned earlier, for now, only appears on my computer.

Regarding point 1, the duplicate files do not appear on OneDrive for Web.

Regarding point 2, the dates on the files are the dates of the last modification. For example, I have File A (date A) and the same File A (date B); the point of the migration was the search for and replace the older files with the more recent and updated ones (replace the same File A, the older version (date A) for the updated version (date B). What is happening is there is no replacement of some file, now I have File A (date A) and the same File A (date B) and a synchronization error on the older file.

Besides this error on duplicate files, the same error also appears on some files where there is no duplicate.

    Thank you for your help,

    Rui

    Hi Rui,

Thanks for posting in the community. Happy New Year!

I understand the inconvenience you are experiencing. Per your description, some files are duplicated after migrating data to OneDrive. Since we are communicating in the community, I am not able to check your environment directly. Therefore, I would like to gather more information for initial troubleshooting. This can help us better understand the situation.

    1. I think you can see the duplicate files in OneDrive for Web.

To verify this, you can open the Private browser window, go to www.office.com, sign into your account, search OneDrive in the top search bar, and click on the OneDrive icon. In OneDrive for Web, click "My Files".

If you don't see the duplicate files in OneDrive for Web, please point it out and let us know.

    1. Regarding "now I have two files with different dates and the same name", I would like to gather more information.

    a. Is the date you mentioned the date of creation or the date of modification? Or are both dates different for duplicate files?

    b. I would like to know if the dates of the different "problematic" files have anything in common. For example, are the dates of the newer versions of the files the same? Let us assume that there are four files, File A (date 1), File A (date 2), File B (date 3), and File B (date 4). File A (date 2) and file B (date 4) are newer versions. Are date 2 and date 4 the same date?

In addition, you can provide some screenshots of different "problematic" files in the OneDrive interface, including their Date values. You can upload the screenshots via "Insert Image".
