How to delete a Section Break without the Previous Section Break Changing to a Different Type?

Using MS Word 2021 and Windows 10, I have a document with many section breaks that are either 'next page' or 'odd page'. I see I made an error a while back making a section break 'odd page' when it should be 'next page'. I try to insert a 'next page' section break then delete the 'odd page' section break ; however, when I delete the old section break the new section break ('next page')I made above it changes to 'odd page'. I am simply trying to change the section break type. There must be a way to do this, but how?

Don't even try to delete the section break. Instead, change the section start type on the Layout tab of Page Setup.

Thank you, Suzanne! That seems to have worked! I will convert to PDF then go over the almost 500 pages with a fine-tooth comb.

Fighting through the 1,500 pages of manuscripts that I have been working on recently (I am new at this), after searching for solutions all day on the internet I considered this my greatest nightmare, but you solved it very simply. Thanks a million!

I gave you 5 stars, but I do not know whether the system accepted my selection.

Because you deserved it. I almost gave up on the entire large project because of this section break issue that you easily resolved.
