For a sharepoint document library - is there a permission level that will allow someone to edit columns in the document library - for example add a column, or edit a column but NOT delete the whole document library.

To edit a column (for example select a column - then "Column settings", "Edit" - so that they can add choices where the column is of type "Choice" - i seem to need to give them the permission of "Manage-Lists" (= "Create and delete lists, add or remove columns in a list, and add or remove public views of a list.") - but they can then delete the whole document library.

I want them to be able to edit a column - but not delete the whole document library.
Is there a way to do this ?

    @Greg Booth ,

    The short answer is No.

    All default permissions are categorized as list permissions, site permissions, and personal permissions, the permissions that can update columns are included in the list permissions, and there is no special permissions depended on columns.

    In other words, when you give users permission to add or delete columns in the list, obviously they can also delete the entire document library.
