Hi,

When I try to open Visio this window pops up saying 'Visio has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Visio will need to be closed as a result'

How do I fix this?

Regards,

Tim.

    Dear Tim Gilbert2,

    Welcome to the community!

I understand that technical issues can be frustrating, and I’d love to help you resolve this.  Based on my research, you can try the following methods to resolve the issue (For reference: Opening Visio - Error that is preventing it from working correctly - Microsoft Community):

Method 1: Restart Visio Sometimes, simply closing and reopening the application can fix temporary issues.

Method 2: Update Visio Ensure you're using the latest version of Visio by checking for updates through Microsoft 365.

    Method 3: Safe Mode:

    • Open Outlook in Safe Mode - Press Win + R > type:visio /safe
    • Restart and try again

Method 4: Check for Conflicting Add-ins

    • Disable add-ins by going to File > Options > Add-ins,
    • then unchecking unnecessary ones.****

    Method 5: Disable add ins:

    Method 6: Repair Visio
If a Microsoft 365 application isn't working correctly, sometimes restarting it will fix the problem. If that doesn't work, you can try repairing it. When you're done, you might need to restart your computer.

You can follow the instruction: Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

    Note:

    • The repair process is straight-forward following the wizard. Note that you’ll need to save your work and close all Office programs first, and then click Repair.
    • Then wait while the repair process runs.
    • You will notice the repair experience is similar to a fresh installation. The amount of time it takes will depend on your connection speed and what the issue is.
    • You will see your Office apps light up in their respective colors while the repair completes.
    • Once the installation is complete, restart your computer just to be sure and launch your apps and verify if the problem you were having is resolved.

Note: Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know the outcome.

If you have any difficulties when trying these methods or the issue still persists after completing the above, feel free to reach out, and we can further investigate the problem together.

Thanks for your patience and understanding so far.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best Regards,
