My volume mixer is not working and it will not let me adjust the volume.

Hello Amaris. I believe the issue is caused by either a corrupted audio driver, a disabled Windows Audio service, or a glitch in the Volume Mixer interface itself, especially if you're using an older version of Windows or recently installed updates.

You may follow these on how to fix it step by step:

1. Restart Windows Audio Service

This service controls all sound functions.

• Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter
• Find Windows Audio, right-click → Restart

Also restart Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

2. Restart File Explorer

• Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
• Find Windows Explorer, right-click → Restart

3. Reinstall Your Audio Driver

Corrupted drivers can block volume control.

• Open Device Manager Win + X > Device Manager

Expand Sound, video and game controllers

Right-click your audio device → Uninstall device

Restart your PC to auto-reinstall the driver

Or manually install the latest driver from your PC manufacturer’s support site.

4. Run the Audio Troubleshooter

Let Windows detect and fix sound issues.

• Go to Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot
• Follow the prompts to scan and repair audio components
