Why can't participants who have signed into a Microsoft Teams (free) account be assigned to a breakout room? Is there a workaround or a setting change?

    Dear @Christine Butler,

Good day. Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. We are happy to help you!

According to your description, please kindly allow me to provide some information with you:

Participants using personal accounts in Microsoft Teams may appear grayed out in Breakout Rooms due to several reasons, primarily related to account type and compatibility. Participants using personal accounts (like Microsoft accounts) rather than organization accounts (like work or school accounts) may be limited in the functionalities available to them.

Microsoft Teams breakout rooms are designed to work primarily with organizational accounts, which can affect the participation of personal account holders. When attempting to assign participants to breakout rooms, those with personal accounts may not be eligible to be moved, resulting in them appearing grayed out.

Breakout Rooms do not support users with Teams Free accounts due to product limitations. Currently, the only workaround is to use the browser in an incognito or private tab, or without signing into the browser, which will allow the user to join the Breakout Rooms.

Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated. Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day!
