Teams won't add an organizer to a meeting

Teams has, for some unknown reason, decided that I cannot add an organizer to a meeting. I selected an individual in my organization as a co-organizer, pressed "Apply", and Teams closed meeting settings. I have attempted to add the co-organizer multiple times now on multiple devices.

Also, Outlook/Teams, for unknown reasons, does not carry forward any co-organizer selections when a meeting is duplicated for a future date: the co-organizers must be added manually to the duplicated meeting. WHY?

This is all FUBAR

Hi @Lee Hollimon, Thank you for reaching out regarding the issues with the co-organizer feature in Microsoft Teams. Below are the detailed steps to help you resolve the two problems you’ve encountered:

    1. Unable to Add a Co-Organizer to a Meeting
    • Try using the web version of Teams: Open the “Meeting Options” link from the meeting invitation (usually found at the bottom of the email or calendar event description) in a web browser and add the co-organizer there.
    • Use Outlook to edit the meeting: Open the meeting in Outlook (desktop or web), click “Meeting Options,” and add the co-organizer through the web interface that opens.
    • Verify after saving: After adding the co-organizer, reopen “Meeting Options” to confirm whether the name has been saved. If not, try again and check immediately after saving.
    • Clear Teams cache and update the app: Sign out of Teams, close the app, and clear the cache (on Windows: delete the folder at %AppData%\Microsoft\Teams). Then sign back in and try again.
    • Ensure both parties are using the latest version of Teams: Make sure both the organizer and the intended co-organizer are running the most up-to-date version of Teams.
    • Check with your IT department: Confirm whether your organization’s Teams policies allow the use of the co-organizer feature.
    1. Co-Organizer Settings Not Retained When Duplicating a Meeting
    • Manually re-add co-organizers: After duplicating a meeting, go to the new meeting’s “Meeting Options” and add the co-organizers again.
    • Use recurring meetings instead of duplicating: If you regularly meet with the same group, consider creating a recurring meeting series and assigning co-organizers to the entire series. This ensures the role is retained across all occurrences.
    • Duplicate shortly after creation (for Webinars): If using the “Duplicate event” feature in Teams (mainly for Webinars), duplicating the event soon after it’s created may retain co-organizer settings.
    • Monitor Microsoft updates: Microsoft may improve this functionality in future releases. Keep an eye on Teams update notes for any changes.
    • Automation (for IT teams): If you have technical support, it’s possible to use Microsoft Graph API or PowerShell to automate meeting creation and assign co-organizers. This is more suitable for IT-managed environments.

If you need further assistance or would like help walking through any of these steps, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
