Microsoft Account "Devices" is not showing my laptop and won’t accept its serial number

My Microsoft account dashboard under “Devices” doesn’t show my current laptop, even though I’ve tried multiple steps to get it to register:

  • Manually entered the serial number using several formatting combinations
  • Performed a full factory reset and set up the device as new
  • Verified all Registry keys and system services were correctly configured (with Copilot’s assistance) Despite these efforts, the device still doesn't appear online.
To rule out account-level issues, I setup a different laptop using the same Microsoft account—this one showed up immediately under “Devices,” which suggests the problem is most likely somehow linked to the laptop itself.

Interestingly, on the problem laptop, when I check Settings > Linked Devices, I can see both laptops listed there, along with the serial number that Microsoft refused to recognize during registration.

Device Info:

Laptop: HP Envy x360 16-ad0023x

Product ID: 9S1M4UA

Windows Version: Windows 11 Home 24H2

Any insight into why the laptop won’t register properly—or what hidden trigger might be blocking device sync—would be appreciated!

That's weird isn't it. You've carry out a good deal of troubleshoots

and worst of all. As mentioned, you can see the laptops has

been registered, but MSof don't recognize them

-- Few checks more, that may work out

    1. Sync issues: Lets' make sure the Sync is enabled

open - Settings > Accounts > Sync your settings and verify, that sync

is turned on. Also, confirm that device visibility is enabled.

    1. Ensure your PC is backed up to OneDrive. This may help with device

recognition. Go to OneDrive settings and check the "Backup" tab.

    1. Backend Microsoft Account Problems:

if the issue persists, contact Microsoft support directly. They can investigate

potential backend issues, with your account and escalate if necessary.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    1. Account Linking Issues >> Sign out of all devices

associated with your MSoft account. Also, changing password will force a sign-out

on all devices. And then sign back into your, laptop with your Microsoft acct.___

    1. Rename the laptops

if recently renamed your PC might take, some time for the change

to be displayed in your MSoft account. You can try rebooting

your computer and checking again later

according to some users on Windows 10 Forums

-- Go fort with these actions & keep us updated, with the results

As you must know to contact. MSoft support is used this . ..

Hi, I am Van. I'll be glad to assist you today.

Usually, a Windows device that is not a Microsoft product will automatically register after you log in to your Microsoft account on the device or sign in to one of Microsoft's products (i.e, Microsoft Store, Edge, Office). If it does not register the device, please try one of the methods below.

    Method 1: Rename the PC

    1. Open the start menu and go to settings.
    2. Select System > About.
    3. In the System Product Name section, click "Rename this PC."
    4. After renaming, restart your computer and sign in with your Microsoft account.

    Method 2: Switch account

    1. Open the start menu and navigate to settings.
    2. Go to Accounts > Your Info.
    3. Under Account Settings, click "Sign in with a local account instead."
    4. Follow the prompts to switch to a local account.
    5. After switching, repeat step 3 but click "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead."
    6. Follow the instructions to add your Microsoft account.

Please feel free to reach out if you require any further assistance. I'm here to help.
