Why am I having difficulty signing in to my hotmail suddenly, when I have not changed anything?

I am having difficulty logging into my hotmail account to see my email, this is a recent development. I have had this email for more than 20 years and have not changed anything, but suddenly I am having difficulty, so it seems obvious that Microsoft has changed something, because it is not specific to any one device. My Microsoft Authenticator app does not get the verification codes, and when I use other methods to verify myself, i.e. like an alternative email, providing the code - ..I still get blocked or get error messages asking me to try later... - so it is getting extremely difficult to do the most basic thing, i.e. check my email.
I pay for this service (unlike gmail) so one expects it should be better...

I have screenshots of the issue.
My outlook app on my phone is also not allowing me access.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have had the same problem since I declined the "convenient" log in methods.

I always logged out and never opted to "stay logged in.

Every time I log in I have to change my password, as it claims on the first attempt, that " used the incorrect password too many times".

Even after changing my password, the first try it says the same thing.

Maybe this is Microsoft's way of forcing you to "subscribe" which I have also opted out of , as hotmail was a free service when I joined.

I realise that it is just the free hotmail service that is being affected , because miraculously, I was able to sign into this forum to comment, with no trouble at all.

Thank you, I’m not sure if that was what solved the problem, but I followed the link and it worked. Incidentally, apparently my question is under review for "possibly violating community guidelines” - I am not sure why, I am not aware of any thing that violates community guidelines, but either way, it seems my access to my hotmail account has been restored and the Authenticator app is receiving the codes again, so it appears to be working properly now.
