Issues with Recovery Options for Deleted Notes in Microsoft Whiteboard

The following problems have been encountered in Microsoft Whiteboard regarding the deletion of notes:

The Back button does not restore deleted notes.
Ctrl + Z fails to undo deletions.
There is no Trash/Bin feature, resulting in permanent loss of deleted elements.

Hello Microsoft Support,

I did not delete anything from my Microsoft Whiteboard account, but all my old boards that were available until yesterday have disappeared automatically. Now I am also unable to sign in properly, and the boards are not opening.

Please help me recover my old whiteboards and fix this issue as soon as possible.

I understand that you are having trouble with the deletion and recovery options, and I understand your frustration.

This issue is caused by Microsoft Whiteboard lacking a functional undo or trash/recycle bin feature, meaning deleted notes cannot be recovered directly within the app once removed.

You can open the Microsoft Whiteboard Home page > Locate the affected board > Select More options (⋯) > Version history > Restore a version from before the notes were deleted.

If your Whiteboard is linked to Teams or OneDrive, open the connected folder. Look for an earlier saved copy containing your deleted notes.

If you are in an organization account, your Microsoft 365 admin may restore Whiteboard data from SharePoint/OneDrive backups. Ask your admin to check the Microsoft 365 compliance center for recoverable versions.

Hi Kai, thanks for update.

Since you couldn't find Version History, have you tried other solutions that I wrote in the answer? If all above solutions didn't help, on Whiteboard for the web, open the board → menu (⋯) → see if a Recycle Bin or Deleted Items option appears.

Or you can go to https://onedrive.live.com → Recycle Bin. If you see deleted Whiteboard files, restore them.

If notebooks are still missing and not in OneDrive or backups, contact Microsoft Support promptly, as they may be able to recover them from recent server backups:

Go to Contact Us - Microsoft and sign in your account.

Type OneNotein the search box.

Click Get help and Select Contact Support.

Choose Microsoft 365 and Office as Products and Services.

Click Confirm.

You can choose to chat with a support representative.
