Is it possible to make the 'FILES' tab appear first in a TEAMS channel, instead of the 'posts' tab?

Is it possible to make the FILES tab appear first on the screen in a TEAMS channel (before the 'Posts' tab). Ideally I would also like to delete or hide the 'Posts' tab from a Teams channel - as it is an unneccessary and annoying feature that is not helpful for my team or anyone else's team that I have worked with. However I understand it's not currently possible to completely delete the posts tab.

Hey Microsoft techs - if you are listening - do us all a favour and work out how to ditch the 'posts' tab.

Meanwhile -- how do I make the FILES tab pop up first, not the annoying and superfluous Posts tab.

    Dear @M S,

Thank you for your detailed explanation and for updating us on your situation.

I truly appreciate your important observation regarding the reordering or removing the default Posts and Files tabs feature in Microsoft Teams, and I completely understand how inconvenience it must be to encounter such a limitation, especially when you're trying to visualize short response data efficiently.

According to your query, I have already submitted your feedback through the Feedback Portal on behalf of you.

In the meantime, I would make a brief summary of this post so that other forum members could easily find useful information here:

    Issue Description:

    • Users want the Files tab in a Microsoft Teams channel to appear first (before Posts) and ideally remove or hide the Posts tab, which many users find unnecessary and unhelpful.

    Current Situation:

This behavior is currently by design, not a bug, though we agree it feels like a UX gap. Posts and Files are default tabs in every Teams channel.

    • They are deeply integrated into Teams and cannot be removed, hidden, or reordered through the standard UI.
    • There is no built-in option to make Files the default tab..
    • Unfortunately, this design choice limits usability and consistency across ownership types.

    Possible Action:

We truly appreciate how valuable this feature is for users 'workflow. If possible, I strongly encourage users to share your feedback directly with the Microsoft Teams Product Team via the Feedback Portal. The team actively monitors user input, and many improvements have been made based on community suggestions. https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com

    Current Update:

    • While we don’t have a confirmed timeline for a fix or enhancement, this issue has been reported by multiple users. If possible, with more feedback/concern the team receives, the higher the visibility it will be addressed in a future update.
    • As I have already reported to the product team, if any updates or announcements are made regarding this feature, I will make sure to share them with you as soon as possible.

Note: Please reassured that you are not alone, I’ll continue to monitor this case and will reach out to you with any new updates as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you see my replies bring helpful information, please kindly accept it as an answer and vote it up by your original account, which raised this question. Once marked, it will automatically pin to top. As other users will also search information in this community, your valuable vote up will definitely also help other users who have similar queries easily to find the correct channel and useful information more quickly.

Again, I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. P_lease note that as a forum moderator, we are not involved in product design decisions and do not have direct access to the development roadmap._

    Dear @M S,

Thank you so much for sharing your thought!

We completely understand how inconvenient it can be when a feature doesn’t align with the way your team works. You’re absolutely not alone, many users have expressed the same concern about wanting the Files tab to appear first and the ability to hide or remove the Posts tab. For teams that focus on document collaboration, this change would make a big difference in productivity and reduce unnecessary clicks.

As forum moderators, we’ve already raised this feedback to Microsoft internally because we know how important it is. However, your voice matters the most. The Microsoft Development Team prioritizes features based on real customer input, and your idea can truly help shape the product.

We strongly encourage you to share your feedback (or upvote an existing suggestion) in the Microsoft Feedback Portal: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com

When you submit your feedback, please include details about why this feature is critical for your team. The more context and votes an idea has, the more likely it is to get attention from the product team.

In the meantime, according to my research, if you want to directly access the files in the teams channel, I recommend you try add the shortcut in the web-browser with the links directly to the SharePoint folder:

    • Go to the Files tab > Open in SharePoint > Copy link
    • Or Choose Copy Link
    • Then open it in a new browser > You can mark it as favorite added in the web-browser, then it will also be visible and clickable right after.

If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Dear @M S,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Microsoft Teams channel layout. I completely understand the inconvenience with the Posts tab being the default view. Therefore, your preference to have the Files tab appear first is a great idea and one that many users have expressed interest in as this can improve the experience and productivity.

Currently, Posts and Files are default tabs in every channel. They are deeply integrated into Teams and cannot be removed or reordered through the standard UI. And there is no built-in option to make Files the default tab. We agree this would be a valuable feature for teams that primarily collaborate on documents. Therefore, to ensure your feedback reaches the right teams, I highly recommend submitting your feedback directly to Microsoft Ideas · Community, where our product development team can know your requirements and ideas for product improvements. If enough users raise ticket for the same idea, Microsoft may consider adding this feature in the future.

Note: As Microsoft Community moderators, please note that we are not involved in product design decisions and do not have direct access to the development roadmap, we want to assure you that your feedback has been acknowledged and is valued.

Workaround: The only workaround is to restrict posting permissions so only owners can post, reducing its use.

If you don’t want other channel members to use the Posts tab, you can edit the team and channel permissions so that only owners can post messages. Once these settings implemented, team members and external collaborators won’t be able to post anything.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
