While running the upgrade from Win10 to Win11 I received this system error 0xca020007.

One of the possible solutions is to clear the software distribution folder, so I'm going down this list:
Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: This built-in tool can help detect and fix issues related to Windows updates. 5

  1. Clear the Software Distribution folder: This folder stores temporary files for Windows updates. Clearing it can resolve conflicts that may cause the error. 5
  2. Run System File Checker (SFC) and DISM: These tools can repair corrupted system files and restore the integrity of Windows. 5
  3. Reset Windows Update components: This can resolve various update-related issues. 5

The troubleshooter found no errors and I have 400+G of space available. My question is how I clear the software distribution folder

Hi, my name is Jan, and I am here to help.

    • Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.

Type in each of these commands and press Enter.

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop bits

Then go to this folder. C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete all the files inside.

Then type in these commands and press Enter.

    net start wuauserv

    net start bits

    Restart your computer.

If there are still issues after this. Try to fully uninstall all third-party antivirus, cleaners, and malware cleaners using their uninstall tools.

This error indicates that the installation files are corrupted. Try an in-place upgrade method.

This will upgrade and repair your system without losing your files and apps.

Download the Media creation tool here.

    Windows 11 media creation tool

    Then choose "ISO"

Once it is downloaded click or open the file using the windows explorer

Then open or click "setup" to run.

Make sure "Keep personal files and apps" has been checked
