Windows 11 Snipping Tool Features and Functionality

Is there a way to revert to the Windows 10 Snipping Tool in Windows 11? The current version lacks a taskbar pin option and the ability to send snips directly to Gmail, making it less user-friendly. Previous answers in the community seem outdated, being from 2022. A step-by-step guide to snipping a page and emailing it as before would be greatly appreciated. What prompted this change to a more complicated version without taskbar support?

Windows 11’s Snipping Tool is the supported option, and you can pin it for quick access. Open Start, search Snipping Tool, right-click it, and choose Pin to taskbar. You can also launch it once, then right-click its icon on the taskbar and pin it.

For the fastest way to snip and send with Gmail, press Win+Shift+S, capture your snip, click the thumbnail, and press Ctrl+C. In Gmail, start a new message, click in the body, and press Ctrl+V—the snip pastes inline. If you prefer attachments, save the snip in Snipping Tool and add it with Gmail’s paperclip.

If you want Share > Email in Snipping Tool to open Gmail directly, set Gmail as your default mail handler. In Chrome or Edge, enable Gmail as the handler for “mailto” links, then in Settings > Apps > Default apps > Choose defaults by link type, set MAILTO to your browser. From then on, Share to Email will open Gmail compose.

If pinning or share options don’t appear, update Snipping Tool in the Microsoft Store, or go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Snipping Tool > Advanced options, then Repair or Reset.
