Surface Pro freezes at Windows startup

I have a Windows Surface Pro 8 that stopped responding just after entering Windows Desktop. I have sent the machine in for Warranty repair twice and it has been returned in the same condition both times. I have tried a fresh Windows 11 installed with no success. The machine will work in the diagnostic troubleshooting menu for 10s of minutes with no issues and it will stay on for a couple of hours when reinstalling Windows, however, if I boot into Windows, the machine will lockup on the login screen or just after Desktop finishing loading. I’m stumped. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

It certainly points to a hardware-level fault rather than Windows or software.

    • Freezes at login screen or shortly after desktop loads
    • Fresh Windows 11 install does not help
    • Returned twice unrepaired

All these indicate a Hardware fault.

This may be a faulty RAM, Failing SSD, Power / voltage regulation fault, Intel iGPU driver / firmware-level issue.

Try to boot into Safe mode -If Safe Mode also freezes → 100% hardware.

Open Event Viewer (if possible) and look for:

    Kernel-Power

    WHEA-Logger

    Machine Check Exception
