I'm unable to get my son's Minecraft account to work with Multiplayer. I've tried everything.

Hello Microsoft,

I just bought Minecraft for my son. I linked his account to mine. I've tried every tutorial to enable Multiplayer for my son but can't get it to show Multiplayer as active when loading Minecraft.

I've enabled it in the XBox app. I've enabled it in Family Controls, etc. but it's still blocked.

How do I fix this?

Thanks

So far;
Edited XBox App to allow Multiplayer and Cross platform.
Edited Microsoft Account to allow Multiplayer and 3rd Party Apps.

I can use my Account from his device, works fine! I use my son's Account and even in the Base "Minecraft Bedrock" game, the Multiplayer option is greyed out and says "Multiplayer is disabled. Please check your Microsoft account settings."

Thank you for letting me know.

The best next step is to get in touch with Microsoft Support directly, as they can check the account details on their side and see why the multiplayer permissions aren’t applying as expected. You can reach them here:

    • Here is the link: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
    • Type this keyword and press Enter: Contact Support.
    • At the bottom, click "Sign in to contact support" and sign in with your Personal Microsoft account (Not work or school account), or click "Contact Support" if you're already signed in.
    • In Product and services, select "Windows".
    • In Category, select "Technical support."
    • Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".

If you ever find yourself stuck in a loop, please use the keywords "Contact Support" or "Live Chat" (without the quotes) and click "Contact Support" at the bottom.

I really hope this information is helpful!

Thank you for letting me know.

From what you’ve described earlier (“base Minecraft from the Microsoft Store”), that sounds like the Bedrock Edition. This version uses Xbox/Microsoft Family settings to enable multiplayer.

It looks like you might be running into two separate issues at once:

    • On Bedrock: Multiplayer still isn’t showing, which could be due to family/child account settings not syncing properly.
    • On Java (ATLauncher): The wrong account is being used for authentication.

Please try signing back in with your son’s account on the device and restart everything (including the Minecraft launcher and Xbox app). This often forces the new permissions and settings to sync correctly.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Sometimes the “Join Multiplayer Games” option is still blocked under the child’s account in the Xbox Privacy & Online Safety page, even if Family Controls look correct. Could you confirm if you’ve already adjusted that setting?

Also, just to double-check, are you signing in with your son’s account inside the Minecraft game itself, or is it still signed in under yours? That can sometimes cause multiplayer to stay disabled.

Any additional info about the issue you can provide will be helpful in diagnosing and resolving the issue.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.
