Dear Denita Arnold,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A.You are right to be frustrated, and you are not alone in experiencing this issue. A recent Windows update has indeed changed the behavior of the photo printing function for many users, causing the exact problem you're describing.
You could try some methods below to solve this issue:
- Using the classic Print Pictures Dialog from File Explorer:
- Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder containing your photos.
- Select the pictures you want to print. You can hold down the Ctrl key and click on each photo to select multiple images.
- Right-click on any of the selected photos.
- In the context menu, instead of just clicking "Print" (if you even see it), look for "Show more options".
- In the classic (longer) context menu that appears, click "Print".
- Repair or reset the Microsoft Photos App:
- Press Windows + I to go to Settings.
- Click on "Apps" and then select "Apps & features".
- Scroll down the list to find "Microsoft Photos".
- Click on it, then click "Advanced options".
- First, try the "Repair" option. This will attempt to fix the app without losing any data. After it's done, try printing again.
- If repairing doesn't work, go back to the same menu and choose "Reset". This will reset the app to its default state.
- Uninstall the latest Windows Update:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
- Scroll to the bottom and click on "Uninstall updates".
- A list of recent updates will appear. Identify the most recent one (look at the installation dates) and select it.
- Click "Uninstall" and follow the prompts. You will need to restart your computer.
If you need to print photos urgently and the above solutions don't work, you can use other software to arrange and print your images.
- Microsoft Word or Google Docs: You can open a blank document, drag and drop your photos onto the page, resize and arrange them as you like, and then print the document. This gives you full manual control over the layout.
- Paint 3D: You can open a new project, go to Menu > Insert to add your photos, arrange them on the canvas, and then go to Menu > Print > 2D Print.
