So, I have been using my laptop for school and for home uses recently, I am not logged into OneDrive with my school account, so I doubt it is interfering with my files. I'm not sure if this could be the issue but I also added the school account on multiple Microsoft apps like, OneNote, and Microsoft word, and yes, I checked to see if it was logged in OneDrive and it was not. I was on my school account, and I opened desktop OneNote app or something like that. Which I have never opened so I believe it downloaded it. and later today I see skype for business, recently downloaded, maybe it was accidentally downloaded with OneNote, I'm not sure if that's the problem, to be honest I don't know at all.

To get to the point I open my laptop tonight and I see an x on my OneDrive symbol, not like I'm already stressed enough recently, so of course I click on it, and I make the x go away and restart it to make sure it works fine now. I am now on my 3rd reset, not gone, I also scanned the laptop for anything unwanted, Nothing, also made sure my laptop was up to date, which it was. So, few minutes ago, I opened Microsoft Q&A on my browser, and I attempt all of the fixes stated except one... Nothing fixed it, the one I did not do was delete OneDrive. I am too scared of losing all my files and stuff like that. Now to ask my last question, does this affect my syncing or files anywhere other than the Vault even when I make the x go away until it is shut off and happens again when turned back on? if it does not, I will bear through having to get the x off every time, as long as my laptop, and accounts, will work the same, except for the x. I also want to make it clear I have never used, nor put anything into this "Vault".

If the last question is a no, it does not affect what I stated, that is all you need to Answer for me, Thanks.

Hi! That red X is almost always a single-item sync error, not a sign that all your OneDrive is broken. In your case it’s typically caused by a stray Windows shortcut named “Personal Vault.lnk” sitting in the OneDrive folder.

OneDrive can’t sync that file type/name, so it keeps flagging it, even if you’ve never used Personal Vault. Your other files continue to sync normally; the red X just reflects the blocked item. You can confirm this by clicking the OneDrive cloud icon and reading the specific error (“item name or type isn’t allowed”) a red/black X means “this item can’t be synced,” not a global failure.

In File Explorer, open your OneDrive folder, enable View > Show > Hidden items, and delete “Personal Vault.lnk” if you see it (empty Recycle Bin afterward). If the message returns, briefly unlock Personal Vault from OneDrive on the web, let it finish, then lock it again and re-check the folder; that refresh often removes the bad link.

Uninstalling/disabling OneDrive on a PC does not delete your cloud files (you can always sign back in and resync), and having Office signed into a school account doesn’t, by itself, interfere with your personal OneDrive.

Windows supports one personal OneDrive and up to nine work/school accounts on a device, so seeing “OneDrive for Business” alongside Office/Skype installs isn’t unusual.
