Azure Database for MariaDB server stuck in “Stopping” — but not actually stopping

I am trying to stop our MariaDB instance, I have tried several times by clicking the "stop" button, and each time the notifications show "Stopping the Microsoft.DBForMariaDB server. Running..." but nothing happens, and the instance continues to run.

I know that the MariaDB services will go out of commission on Sept 20th, is that why I cannot stop it?

    Hi François Chataigner,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A!

Yes, you are correct MariaDB services will be retried by September 19, 2025. But we still have time i will confirm after checking internally, can you please try below ones and let me know.

    1. Check Resource Health: First, make sure to check the Resource health for your server in Azure. Sometimes there might be ongoing service issues or alerts that could prevent it from stopping.
    2. Wait a Bit Longer: Occasionally, the stopping process can take longer than expected, especially if there are active connections or operations running on the database. If possible, give it some more time to see if it progresses to a stopped state.

Note: MariaDB services will be retried by September 19, 2025, Migrate from Azure Database for MariaDB to Azure Database for MySQL - Flexible Server to continue using the services.
