Hello Travis, I'm Quinn and here to help!

Here's how to get your external hard drive up and running.

    1. Plug in your external hard drive.
    2. Press Win + X > choose Disk Management.
    3. Find your external drive in the list.
    4. Right-click it > choose Format….
    5. Pick a File system:
      • NTFS > best if you’ll only use it on Windows PCs.
      • exFAT > best if you want it to work on both Windows and Mac.
    6. Give it a Volume label (the drive’s name).
    7. Leave Allocation unit size as default.
    8. Click OK to start formatting.

If the drive says “Not Initialized” or “Unallocated”:

    1. Right-click > choose Initialize Disk > select GPT (recommended).
    2. Right-click the unallocated space > choose New Simple Volume…
    3. Assign a drive letter (like E:), choose the file system (NTFS or exFAT), name the drive, and finish the wizard.

Your drive should now show up in This PC ready to use.
