I have a Microsoft subscription, paid $100+ just a few weeks ago, but I'm unable to use Word. Message comes back that I don't have an account. In fact I do. Now I have a further problem. Wanting to live chat with somebody at Microsoft, I mistakenly clicked on logmeinrescue, didn't realize my mistake until I'd given them access to my computer. Was told I have all kinds of malware on my computer and they wanted hundreds of dollars to install a firewall. Now I worry that logmein has corrupted my computer.

Chances are good you were taken by the logmeinrescue "technician" who wanted access to your computer. You may well have malware now. Do not pay them money. Do not allow further access by them.

First, make sure that Windows defender is active and have it run a check. It acts as a firewall.

If it spots problems it cannot cure, I suggest posting a new question in the Q&A website with a Windows and Defender tags. This forum that we are in is about Word, not about Defender.

As to Word, John has given you good directions for installation of the desktop applications, which is what you want.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall any existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft 365:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your subscription.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 subscription and click the "Install" button.
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" button still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!
