Why is Excel Online dropping the first few inputs when tabbing to a new cell?

Hello,

Multiple employees at the business we serve are complaining about a recent issue. This has allegedly started happening after their vacations ended in late July. They work purely in Excel Online. Sometimes when they tab to a new cell the first few keyboard inputs do not register. I have suggested them to switch to the Excel desktop app but they are reluctant. This is seemingly not a keyboard hardware issue since it started happening to everybody at the same time, and they do not all have the same keyboard. They do however all have the same specifications on their workstations. I wonder if there has been any update mid July that might be interfering, with either their system specifications or Google Chrome? Or at least I hope somebody else has noticed this issue. It does not happen in the Excel desktop app. Their workstations have 8 gigabytes of RAM and an average Intel processor with an iGPU. I have tried clearing cache, disabling browser extensions, a lighter workbook (still happens in a completely new workbook), enabling hardware acceleration in the Browser and I have checked for network connection issues.

We have multiple users experiencing the same problem.

    • Windows/Mac/Linux operating systems tested.
    • Firefox/Edge/Chrome/Opera browsers tested.
    • Multiple keyboard types tested.
    • All with the same issue.

This all started around the same time for all of my 40+ users (mid last year).

I'm 100% this is an Excel Online issue that needs resolving by Microsoft, as it just started happening one day to all users and it's affecting a very wide number of users all with different setups.

    Same problem here.

First, the worksheet was made in Libreoffice Calc, saved to Excel 2007-365 format and uploaded to Sharepoint.

1.Does the problem occur only in Excel Online, or does it also affect other Office Online applications, such as Word Online or PowerPoint Online?

    Only Excel Online.

2.Does the issue occur when using another browser, like Microsoft Edge?

Yes, same in Vivaldi browser and in Linux Mint 22.1 too.

3.Does the issue happen with other navigation keys (e.g., Enter, arrow keys) or only with Tab?

    No. Only numbers.

4.Are there any error messages in Excel Online?

    No.

5.Have you Test in Incognito Mode by:

    Persists in incognito.

6.Please check the keyboard language and layout settings on an affected workstation:

-Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region (Windows 11) or Language (Windows 10).

    Slovenčina.
