Hello, I am trying to close my personal Microsoft account ([******@practical-ecology.co.uk]) but I cannot, because the system requires me to first leave an organization/tenant. The problem is: On [account.microsoft.com/organizations] → no organizations are shown. On [myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations] → I cannot log in because the account is personal. On [portal.azure.com] → I receive the error AADSTS5000225. I contacted Microsoft Support via live chat more a few times, but the issue has not been resolved. Because of this, I am completely stuck: I cannot leave the organization by myself. I cannot close my personal Microsoft account. I kindly request escalation to the Data Protection / Escalation Team and ask for manual removal of my personal account from the organization/tenant. This is the only way for me to successfully close my account. Thank you in advance for your support.

    Hello Ana !

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Learn Q&A.

Here’s what that error means and the fastest ways to get unstuck.

You’re being routed to a MS Entra tenant that’s been blocked due to inactivity. If your personal account was ever added to a work or school tenant even just as a guest, closing your Microsoft account will first require leaving that org but because the tenant is blocked, normal leave organization flows fail.

    https://docs.azure.cn/en-us/entra/fundamentals/inaccessible-tenant

You need to open an incognito window and go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com?tenantId=<tenantDomain or tenantGUID> then choose organizations and Leave, you often find the tenant GUID/domain in the error details or past invite emails and if you can access it, this immediately removes the org link.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/external-id/leave-the-organization

And if it says you’re the last admin or can’t leave, the tenant must be deleted before you can leave but a blocked tenant can’t be self-managed so you’ll need an admin of that tenant to remove you or delete the tenant.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/sv-se/answers/questions/4086117/cannot-delete-my-microsoft-account-because-it-is-l

Microsoft only reactivates blocked tenants within 20 days of the block and after that the tenant is permanently deleted automatically and while blocked, sign-in and self-service removal usually won’t work.

In that case, you may need to approach Azure support.
