I opened my laptop and it showed preparing automatic reset, it pulled up a page showing different options, Continue, Use a device, Troubleshoot and turn off PC I tried all options to reset the PC including letting it die then powering it back on when charged. Every time I tried to reset it showed me a screen saying reset this PC with smaller text under in saying There was a problem resetting your PC.

So how exactly am I suppose to reset is when I cant get to the login screen only the automatic repair that wont let me repair it.

    Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    If your computer consistently fails to reset, the recovery files are likely damaged. In this case, the most reliable solution is to perform a clean installation of Windows.

    To perform a clean install, you will need an installation media.

    If you don't have an installation media, create one using the Media Creation Tool.

    You can create the installation media on an empty USB flash drive with at least 8GB.

    Below are instructions for creating installation media on a USB flash drive.

    (You will need to create the installation media on a working Windows computer.)

    1. Download the tool from the link below;

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2156295

    1. Double-click on the downloaded file to run the tool;
    2. If prompted by UAC (User Account Control), click on "Yes";
    3. Read the terms and click "Accept" if you agree;
    4. Leave the "Use the recommended options for this PC" box checked and click "Next."
    5. Select "USB flash drive" and click "Next".
    6. Connect the USB flash drive you want to use, click the "Refresh drive list" link, select the USB flash drive, and click "Next";

    (Note that the files on the USB flash drive will be deleted. Make a backup of the files if necessary.)

    1. Wait for the procedure to finish and click "Finish" when the USB flash drive is ready.

    Since a clean install will delete the entire contents of the system drive, it's a good idea to back up any important files stored on the drive to an external storage device.

    Since you cannot access the system, here is a procedure that should help you access the files stored on the computer.

    1. Start your computer using the installation media;
    2. Choose the language, select "Next", and press "Shift + F10" to open the Command Prompt;
    3. In Command Prompt, type the command below and press Enter.
    notepad

    1. Notepad will open. Click on "File" and select "Save As";
    2. A window will open that allows you to browse the files on your computer. Through this window, you can make a copy of your files.

    Note: There will be other partitions that are usually hidden in Windows. The system partition, which is usually (C:), should be (D:), and your files will be in the "Users<username>" folder.

    After performing the backup, access the article below, go to the end of the article, and expand "Clean install" under "Steps to reinstall Windows with media" to see the instructions.

    In your case, start the computer using the installation media and proceed from step 2.

    (You may need to change the BOOT property in the device's BIOS settings. If you don't know how to do this, please let me know.)

    Feel free to ask back any questions.
