Minecraft Java, cannot play multiplayer, went on microsoft family and multiplayer is already turned on.

Question

I am frustrated. I went online, and searched for 2-4 hours on how to activate multiplayer. It kept on leading me to the Xbox online safety options. So, I then checked but the multiplayer option is turned on. I can't seem to find another solution other than waiting for another 5 years until I am 18. What do I do? How do other people do it? My username is ThatOnePotatoX. So, is there actually nothing I can do for this? or can anyone help please, and lastly my parents know and tried to help.
