Hi. I have a Surface Studio 2 with a screen that does not come on as it stays black, however when connecting the laptop to a 2nd screen it works fine, the touch on the screen also works.

I can pick up an original Surface Studio 1 screen from eBay my question is will it fit the Surface Studio 2? Thank you for your help and I hope I can get some responses.

Thank you.

    Hi Baljit,

Thanks for the question here int he community I know how annoying it is to have a Surface Studio 2 screen go black when touch and external monitors work.

Sadly Surface Studio 1 screens don't work on Surface Studio 2s. They're just built differently. Swapping them could mess things up worse.

To fix this get replacement parts made just for Surface Studio 2. Check out Microsoft-approved repair places or iFixit for parts that work and keep your warranty good. If you still have warranty contact Microsoft Support for repairs here is the link to check your warranty Check your Microsoft warranty and create service orders.

Are you fixing it yourself or do you want a pro to do it?

I hope this answer is helpful, if you have further questions, feel free to reply back

    Hey Baljit,

Glad I could keep you from getting the wrong screen! You're right about the IC chip being a possible cause of the black screen. The Surface Studio 2 has chips handling the screen's power and display. If one goes bad the screen can go black even if everything else seems okay. If your device turns on works with another monitor and the main screen's touch still works it probably means there's an issue with the display driver or backlight IC. If you shine a light and can barely see the image the backlight probably isn't working which might be a faulty backlight IC. But if the screen is broken, doesn't respond at all or shows nothing even with a flashlight you might need a new screen.

I hope this answer is helpful, if you have further questions, feel free to reply back

    Regards,

    Marcelo
