Microsoft 365 subscriptions are region-specific. Your subscription is billed in the currency of the country you originally signed up for. There is no direct way to change the country of an active subscription. You cannot simply switch your subscription from UK to New Zealand while keeping the same plan.
To address your requirements, you can try the following:
Option A: Keep your existing subscription (UK) and just update your account region
- This is not recommended because some services (like currency for billing, Microsoft Store purchases, and local offers) remain tied to the UK.
- OneDrive data and Microsoft apps will continue working, but any new purchases or subscriptions will use the UK store.
Option B: Cancel and re-subscribe in New Zealand
- Step 1: Backup everything
- Ensure your OneDrive files are fully synced to your PC or download them to a safe location.
- Although OneDrive files are associated with your account, having a local copy ensures no accidental loss.
- Step 2: Cancel your current subscription
- Go to Microsoft Account Services & Subscriptions and cancel your UK subscription.
- Do not delete your Microsoft account; keep the same account for continuity.
- Step 3: Re-subscribe in New Zealand
- Sign in to Microsoft 365 and purchase a New Zealand subscription.
- Make sure to select New Zealand as the billing country.
- Step 4: Reconnect your account
- Sign back in to OneDrive with the same Microsoft account.
- Your OneDrive files should still be there, because OneDrive storage is tied to your Microsoft account, not the subscription country.
- Any files locally backed up can be restored if needed.
Your Microsoft account email and OneDrive data should remain the same. You won't lose files just because you change the subscription, but double-check that everything is backed up. Subscription features (like 1 TB OneDrive storage) may temporarily lapse if you cancel and re-subscribe. To avoid this, time the cancellation carefully and restore the new subscription immediately. Microsoft support can help if you want a smoother migration or need help with OneDrive continuity.
Btw. you might want to contact Microsoft support and ask if they can transfer your subscription region. Occasionally, for active subscriptions, they can pro-rate the remainder and help you move to a new country without losing benefits. Phone/Chat: Microsoft support worldwide
