Microsoft Edge Copilot sidebar not working keeps stating "it's not you, it's me" error

I had an error with my Copilot in the side panel and I wanted to summarize a YouTube video. I hit the "Summarize video" button above the video screen and nothing happened after a long while. In fact, it just said "It's not you, it's me" in the panel. Also I've refreshed the page a few times (about 7 hours since this happened) and it still doesn't go away. Each time I refresh, a tiny sign in screen opens up for about 2–4 seconds and closes on its own; this does not fix anything. I'm scared to reset the conversation because I'll lose important data. Is there any way to refresh or reboot Copilot without losing what I already have going on?

    Dear Angel Melchor

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A Foum. I'm Haien from Microsoft Q&A.

I'm sorry to hear Copilot isn't working as expected on your laptop. This behavior strongly suggests the incident is not with the Copilot service itself or your Windows installation, but rather a localized data corruption or a conflict within your specific Microsoft Edge user profile. Unfortunately, we have no sure way to fix this error while preserving all the results in your Copilot.

Therefore, to better assist without guessing, could you clarify a couple of quick details?

    • Which version of Windows (10 or 11) and Edge are you on? (Check via Settings > About or edge://settings/help.)
    • Are you having the problem via Copilot Apps or Copilot Website?
    • Is this a personal Microsoft account, work/school, or Copilot Pro subscription?
    • Does the issue happen in a new Edge profile or InPrivate mode?

Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

In the meantime, from your descriptions, I will assume that you are using the Microsoft Copilot Website on Microsoft Edge of Windows 11. Therefore, please consider trying my suggestions and keep me updated with anything news from it:

    • Ensure you're online (try another site like bing.com). Restart your laptop and relaunch Copilot (search for it in the Start menu)
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update (Win10) or Settings > Windows Update (Win11) > Click Check for updates and install any available ones, including optional updates for Microsoft Edge > Restart and test Copilot.
    • For Copilot on Microsoft Edge:
      • Sign out of Microsoft Edge > Go to edge://settings/profiles/yourProfile > select Reset settings > Restore settings to default
      • Open Edge > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Choose what to clear > Select "All time" for Cached images/files and Cookies > Clear now.
      • Go to copilot.microsoft.com and try sign in again.
    • For Copilot apps: Right-click Start > Apps & features (Win10) or Installed apps (Win11) > Search for "Copilot," click it, then Advanced options > Reset > Relaunch and sign in with your Microsoft account.
