Hi James,
I completely understand why you’d want to sign in to Microsoft Edge without automatically syncing your data. Sync is helpful for keeping favorites, passwords, and settings consistent across devices, but if you prefer to keep things local, it can feel intrusive when it starts without giving you a choice.
Why this happens
Microsoft Edge is designed to prompt sync when you sign in because it assumes you want a seamless experience across devices. However, you do have control you can turn sync off before or right after signing in.
How to sign in without enabling sync
Open Edge and click the profile icon (top-right corner).
Click Sign in to sync data.
When the sign-in window appears:
Enter your Microsoft account credentials.
Look for the option Customize sync settings or Sign in without sync (usually a link under the sign-in button).
Select Sign in without sync.
If you already signed in
Click the profile icon → Manage profile settings.
Go to Profiles → Sync.
Toggle Sync to Off.
Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!
