How do I troubleshoot Authenticator app?

I got the authenticator app and my profile appears in there. I was able to log in on the edge app on my phone. The issue is that nay time I need to log in and am prompted to use a code or approve a request on the app I don't get anything. I am stuck in an endless loop as when I click on "can't use authenticator app" it sends me back to the screen asking for a code or approval. https://aka.ms/mfasetup isn't any help as it also asks for authenticated log in.
