It looks like the channel change isn’t being applied. Here are the steps that usually work:
1. Confirm Insider enrollment
Open any Office app → File → Account → under Office Insider, make sure you’re enrolled in the Beta Channel.
2. Use the correct registry location
If you want to set the channel manually, use this path (not the Policies path):
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration
Add or update this string value:
updatebranch = BetaChannel
Close Registry Editor after saving.
3. Restart the Click-to-Run service
Open the Windows Services app:
- Press Win + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Find Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service, right-click it, and choose Restart.
4. Force an update
Run Command Prompt as Administrator and enter:
cd %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun
officec2rclient.exe /update user
If you want a specific build, add:
/updatetoversion=16.0.xxxxx.xxxx
Finally, restart and check the build in File → Account.
