Please please please let the task bar stay the f out of the way. Let it be vertical but let it NOT interfere.

It's bad enough that I cannot position the taskbar in less prime real estate (left or right vertical) and it is perpetually interfering with my access to other functions that must be along the bottom of the screen, but I had started to get used to closing the damn thing by clicking the window and then a side spot, but now it won't disappear at all. What the hell. HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP. This is interfering with my productivity in terms of extra time necessary to constantly reposition my screens, but even more so in my irritation. Microsoft, are you TRYING to alienate your base? I'm about to seceed to Apple.

    Hi Naomi,

Unfortunately, Microsoft removed that feature when they rebuilt the taskbar in Windows 11, and it now only supports being positioned at the bottom. According to Microsoft, allowing the taskbar to be moved would require rewriting how every element behaves in different orientations, which would take a lot of resources for a feature used by only a small number of users. For heavy users and those who are used to a different taskbar position, this change would definitely take a lot of adjustment. That said, I highly recommend using this third-party app as a workaround. This should allow you to place your taskbar on the side of the screen.

In Windows Settings, you can set the Windows taskbar to auto-hide, if that helps. For more, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/customize-the-taskbar-in-windows-0657a50f-0cc7-dbfd-ae6b-05020b195b07 .
