I have Windows XP Home edition.  I ran an automatic update and when my computer restarted to instal this, I got a blue screen saying STOP: c0000139 {Entry Point Not Found} The procedure entry point GdiGetBitmapBitsSize could not be located in the dynamic link library GD132.dll.

I have tried to reboot to last known configuration and safe boot but both times I come back to the blue screen.  Can anyone help me please!

    Hi JacquiO,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Windows XP Community.  The following troubleshooting steps will help you resolve this issue:

    1.    Boot your machine from a Windows XP CD.

    2.    Select the Recovery Console, and get to the dos prompt (black screen with white letters).

    3.   At the prompt, type copy  ‘d:\gdi32.dll file c:\windows\system32 ‘ without the quotes.

    4.    At the prompt, type copy ‘d:\gdi32.dll file c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386’  without the quotes.

    5.    Try to boot normally.

You may also view the steps in this article.

Please let us know if this helped.

OK, I am having this same problem on my wife's Dell Dimension 8400.  I can pull the drive and put it in as a slave on another identical system, change the files out, and move it back to the good system.  HOWEVER!  It still gets me the BSOD and error code C0000139 (Entry point not found.)  Attempts to load the XP CD and to a Repair result in a message that the system could not find a hard drive (It's a SATA, is that part of the issue here?) I can't get into her My Documents folder (access denied), but I can get into any other one. Is there a work-around to get into the My Documents folder so I can at least back everything up and start over if I have to do so?

    Hi Dena,

Thank you very much for your advice.  I followed the steps in the attached article link you provided and it has cured my problem.  The steps were slightly different to what was outlined as I did not select recovery console or need to input the addresses you supplied but just by following the instructions on screen, I now have my computer back.  I needed to have my original disc and product code to hand and then it took just 45 minutes to complete.  I can view all my documents and photos and the only problem I have is that I need to download service pack 3 as my original service pack is no longer supported and then I should be able to run I-tunes which won't run at the moment.

I am able to view my computer and my documents.

Thank you again from a very relieved and grateful Jacqui, I am now a converted MS forum fan!

I have tried typing at the prompt (of the Recovery Console)  the commands listed on steps 3 and 4 above, specifically:

     C:\Windows>copy  d:\gdi32.dll file c:\windows\system32

But all I got is errors saying that the command is incorrect instead of copying the packed gdi32.dll file into the hard drive.

    Any clue why?

    Thanks
