Hi HINGEX,
It's a complicated case, since Microsoft no longer reissues keys for out-of-support products; replacing or upgrading to a supported Windows Server is the recommended long-term solution for production systems. But here are some of my suggestions you can consider trying to recover or replace the key.
1/ Quick checks
- Look for the COA sticker on the server, original media packaging, purchase invoice, or vendor email.
- If your org used Volume Licensing, check VLSC or ask your licensing admin.
2/ Recover from the running system (it's the fastest way)
- Run a trusted local tool (for example NirSoft ProduKey) as Administrator to read and decode the installed product key from the registry.
- If the system won’t boot, export the SOFTWARE registry hive and run the same tool on another trusted PC.
If you cannot recover locally
- Contact the original hardware vendor/OEM or your reseller to check purchase records or COA reproduction.
- If you have enterprise licensing, ask your Volume Licensing administrator to retrieve or reassign a key.
If you think this is a useful answer, please vote so that others can benefit too.
Happy to help :)
