Step 1: Recover and Secure Your Microsoft Account
- Go to Recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account.
- Sign in and follow the prompts to verify your identity.
- Change your password to a strong, unique one:
- Use at least 12 characters.
- Include uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
- Enable Two-Step Verification:
- Sign in to your Microsoft account Security tab
- Select Manage how I sign in to show the ways to prove who you are.
- Under Additional security and Two-step verification choose Turn on or Turn off.
- Follow the instructions shown on the screen.
Note: As part of setting up this account, you'll be given a QR code to scan with your device; this is one way we ensure you are in physical possession of the device you are installing the Authenticator app to.
- Check for suspicious rules or forwarding:
- Sign in at Outlook.com.
- Go to Settings > Mail > Rules and Forwarding.
- Delete any unfamiliar rules or forwarding addresses.

- Run a full antivirus scan using Windows Defender.
- Remove any detected threats before logging back into your account.
