New but not improved Outlook

I’m writing to express serious concerns about the functionality and usability of the New Outlook for Windows. As a longtime user of Classic Outlook, I’ve recently transitioned to the new version and have encountered multiple regressions that significantly impact my workflow and productivity.

Key issues include:

• Loss of direct “Block Sender” functionality: The removal of one-click blocking forces users to navigate to Outlook.com, adding unnecessary steps to a previously simple task.

• Rules not supported for IMAP accounts: This limitation prevents users from automating email handling for third-party accounts, which was fully supported in Classic Outlook.

• Missing or altered folder behavior: Essential folders like Outbox are either hidden or behave differently, causing confusion and disrupting message management.

• Reduced customization and control: Many layout, filtering, and automation options have been removed or relocated, making the interface less intuitive and less powerful.

These changes represent a step backward for users who rely on Outlook as a professional-grade tool. The New Outlook may offer cloud-based benefits, but it sacrifices the flexibility, speed, and control that made Classic Outlook so effective.

I urge you to reconsider these design decisions and restore key features that empower users to manage their email efficiently. Outlook should evolve forward — not regress.

Sincerely,

Robin

    Hello,

Your observation is spot on. New Outlook is not meant to replace the Classic Outlook.

New Outlook is a light weight free email app, it replaced the old free Mail app that came with Windows.

Classic Outlook is a paid comprehensive version, hence with all of the features that you don't see in new Outlook. If you have Microsoft 365 subscription or one-time purchase Office 365, you already paid for it and you wouldn't want to use the New Outlook.

Wow, I never realized that. Are you saying that New Outlook didn't replace Classic Outlook as some kind of upgrade? In which case, do I have to recover my Classic Outlook which was somehow lost in the transition because I purchased it with MS Office.
