Do I need to uninstall previous versions of microsoft office to install Office home 2024?

I have recently purchased Office 2024 for home (not business) use. During installation, some errors occurred. I cannot edit or create new documents or spreadsheets. When I try to do so, it suggests that I "check for updates" but when I try to run these, I receive a notification that "Some Apps have encountered errors."

Do I need to erase previous versions of Microsoft office for Office 2024 to install properly?

Also, if I uninstall previous versions of Microsoft office, do I lose my old word or excel files?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

About your question, your Word or Excel files won’t be deleted if you uninstall older versions of Office. They’ll stay safely on your computer.

It’s often a good idea to uninstall older Office versions first, since having multiple versions installed can sometimes cause the kind of errors you’re seeing during setup. After uninstalling, try restarting your PC before reinstalling Office 2024 to ensure a clean installation.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office 2024 Home:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your subscription.
    • Find your Microsoft Office 2024 Home and click the "Install" button.
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" button still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!
