Getting hold of an onmicrosoft domain once set up for a trial?

So. Someone here set up a trial for O365 business, using companyname.onmicrosoft.com. That trial expired and when I called MS support, they said that that domain is no longer available. I cannot register a new account under that name though, so it appears to be taken. Is there any way to reuse it? We are are partner and need to set it up and then register our partner licenses.

Hi Anders,

Yes, it can still be used within a certain period.

Generally, a trial account will have a 30-day grace period when it’s expired. Then your data will be deleted no later than 180 days. After that the onmicrosoft domain will be released from the system.

Regarding the situation, if it’s already more than 180 days, the domain should have been used by someone else already.

Can someone suggest with whom at microsoft we should discuss this as I'd rather not post sensitive info here?

I realise that, but theuy said, and I quote: "There is no such domain as xxxx" and no we cannot log in.

There are chances that it will be taken. I don't think Microsoft support will tell you who had taken it, as they need to protect their customers privacy. If you still able to login, you better secure it before you past that grace period

It is more than 180 days. It was created under the beta period, but how can the domain be taken if MS support says there is no such domain?
