How to change phone number with no Authenticator

Question

I’ve changed my number and now cannot update or enter my Microsoft without the previous number having the Authenticator app on it.

my new phone has an Authenticator app but won’t connect with the PC and the codes are mixed letters and number when the code you have to input for connectivity has only numbers. Please help. This system is very confusing.
